The FoilSolutions Retracting Leash is engineered to provide outstanding performance and safety for foil riders. It’s designed to remain taut and stay out of the water while foiling, while also offering maximum separation between you and your board when you're in the water.
The FoilSolutions Leash System: Four Main Components
A&B. Retracting Leash Unit & Wearable System
Whether connected to your waist, calf, or ankle, the leash unit should be worn with the webbing and claw hook facing downward. You may choose to install the leash with the logo facing outward or inward, depending on your preference.
There are two side slots ("ears") on the leash unit. Weave the belt through both ears as shown in the instructional video:
This connection method is the same regardless of whether you're attaching it to your waist, ankle, or calf.
C. Shock Cord
The shock cord (bungee) is a critical component of the leash system and must always be used.
Its main functions are:
- Keeping the leash system out of the water
- Absorbing shock when your board shoots out
- Providing additional separation when stretched 10 to 14 feet, depending on the shock cord length)
The shock cord has two swivels:
- The swivel with the ring end connects to the claw hook on your leash
- The other swivel connects to the Velcro rail saver
Rail Saver
⚠️ We've seen rail savers tear when incorrectly attached. Refer to this video for proper installation: 📹 How to attach the rail saver
Over time, the Velcro on the rail saver may wear out. If it does, you can either replace the Velcro or substitute it with a paracord. Keep in mind, the purpose of the Rail Saver is to protect your board from damage caused by the cord and swivel. Therefore, if using a Paracord, make it shorter than the distance between your board's rail and the leash connection point to prevent potential damage to your board.

💡 In the event of a hard fall, the shock cord should act as the "weak link" to prevent damage to you or your gear.
D. Connection Point to Your Board
Most foil boards include a leash plug. Use a short paracord to connect the shock cord to the leash plug, as explained above.
Most eFoils do not come with a leash plug. However, FoilSolutions offers custom leash attachments for Lift, Fliteboard, and Waydoo EVO models. You can find them on our website.

💡 What's a Quick Release/Tether Pigtail?
For foilers, the Quick Release Pigtail is primarily used by Wing surfers to connect the wing leash to their body.
Happy foiling, and stay safe on the water!
